5 TIPS FOR CHOOSING YOUR WEDDING GOWN

The bridal gown will be the most important thing you ever wear in your life and many brides dream of the day they try on that perfect white dress. This will set the tone for the wedding as well as show off their personality and style. When shopping for your wedding dress start early and set a budget. Start by limiting your options to choose the best dress for your body type. Finding a silhouette that highlights your best assets and conceals your less favorable traits is the way to go.

There are 5 most common female body shapes which are triangle, rectangular, inverted triangle, hourglass, and round. Please see below graphic displaying different types of wedding gowns and which body shape are suitable for each (everyone’s body is different and this is only meant as a guideline to help give you a jump start on your dress shopping).

Here is a step by step on how to go about finding your dress.

  1. Create a Pinterest inspiration board of dresses that appeal to you. This will help the sales associate in bridal stores narrow down the right dress for you.

  2. Look over all the pictures you pinned and see if there is a pattern and what are the similarities between each dress. Are most of the dresses you selected a-line and with lace features? Make a list of the features you like and start there.

  3. Make appointments to three bridal stores of your choice. Come prepared with print outs of what you are looking for. Let them know first hand of your max budget and bring your trusted family and friends.

  4. Wear if you have the right undergarments preferably ones you will be wearing on your wedding day. If you do not have those yet make sure to wear a strapless bra. Take pictures of the ones you liked if you are allowed. If you are not allowed ensure you write down the style number and the designer. After leaving the stores and having tried on a number of dresses you may forget the different traits of each and having style numbers and the designer will jog your memory at a later time.

  5. Don’t say no to trying on styles of dresses you did not envision would look good on your body type. You may be surprised and choose a gown you least expect. When you find your dress keep record of your fittings, delivery and pick up dates. Make a list of everything you still need (lingerie, jewellery, veil etc). When you bring your dress home keep it in the garment bag provided by the store and keep it away from moisture, dirt, and keep it hanging to avoid wrinkles. The week of your wedding have your dress steamed by a professional to ensure it is wrinkle free and looking flawless.
